National Adoption Day is traditionally celebrated in Ukraine on September 30, starting with 2009. It is a day to honor adoptive parents, guardians, foster parents, caretakers of family-type homes, all those involved in adoption and child protection. It is a day of joy for thousands of children who have found happiness in loving and caring families. It is a celebration of kindness and compassion for all Ukrainian society.

Kherson started celebrating the Adoption Day on September 25. In the building of Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre, a regional forum on protection of children’s rights dedicated to the Day of adoption was held in order to implement tasks of the President of Ukraine on prevention of child abandonment and development of domestic adoption and family forms of upbringing for orphans and children deprived of parental care. A lot of guests gathered in the building of the theater. Among them were the adoptive parents, adopted children and employees of services on children’s rights and various charitable and community organizations, including representatives of “My Home” Foundation. On this day, mothers and fathers of foster children, parents-caretakers of family-type homes were awarded with Certificates of thanks from the Head of regional state administration and received valuable gifts and flowers. Not one of the foster children left without a special gift.

Also, a local TV station “Scythia” dedicated one of the programs called “Give light!” to Adoption Day. People, directly involved in the process of adoption, and adoptive parents themselves were invited. During this program the families of our Foundation shared vivid life stories and testimonies. Those were the Orlov, Moseychuk and Gorbenko families. Each of these families is unique in its own way and how they received the kids was special for the parents too, but having up to 10 children, they have something to tell the audience, they know what to advice and how to encourage those who doubt. And they know people should not be afraid to accept children, and then the joy of celebrating the Adoption Day in Ukraine will be experienced by more children and families.
