During September the Alliance “Ukraine without orphans” will participate in a charity marathon within the project Kyiv Half Marathon. We invite you to join the reconstruction of social rehabilitation center for orphans with special needs “My Home”.

Imagine that you are a child and you are at home. What your home means to you? Is it a fortress, or perhaps it’s your safe secret-spot, or maybe it’s your bridgehead for playing and discovering the world, or space for rest? Is it a family comfort thing and atmosphere of love and care? Because exactly such a place is to be built in Kherson for 35 orphans with special needs who do not know what true parental warmth is.

The purpose of the project is development of a national marital placement of orphaned children and children deprived of parental care in the family and also providing help for graduates of boarding schools, through provision of housing for the long term. Within the framework of project is planned to reconstruct the complex of a former kindergarten that has two detached buildings, in the social center and family-type orphanage. Currently design works are already started. The complex area will consist of 760 square meters. There can simultaneously accommodate up to 35 people (not counting children parents, but including graduates).

Social and Rehabilitation Center for orphans with special needs “My Home” will provide an opportunity of residence for 3 families with the status “Foster family” or “Family-type orphanage” which raise from 3 to 7 children, adopted children, children with status “under the care” or “foster children “. Two three room apartments and one apartment for seven rooms will be reconstructed for them.

The center will become a campus for 12 graduates of boarding schools who currently do not have a worthy alternative. There will be created an ordered, partially paid place in the form of 3 one-room apartments. Each of it will consist of 47 square meters. The apartments on the ground floor will be equipped to provide housing for children with disabilities, where will temporarily live graduates from boarding-schools of Kherson region. There will be 4 people in each apartment.

This place will become a training center for:
a) parents (future adoptive parents or guardians);
b) adults who would like to become a long time friend-mentor for orphan;
c) social workers who have been recently recruited in a big amount at social Services to assist families in crisis;
d) volunteers (to teach them and do volunteer management at their work in orphanages);

The total cost of rebuilding social rehabilitation center for orphans with special needs “My Home” is 220 000 USD
