On July 8, the Law “On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of Ukraine as for Strengthening of Protection of Children’s Right for Adequate Maintenance by Improving the Procedures for Recovery of Alimony” entered into force. This law clearly states that the child is the owner of alimony. Adults manage these funds but only for needs of the child.

The amount of alimony has increased from 30% to 50% of minimum wage. Also, according to the law, responsibility for non-payment of additional expenses for a child will be introduced, and even the possibility of taking into account hidden income of the payer of alimony when they are recovered in court!

 Over the past 10-15 years, the number of single mothers has increased by 20 times. 7 million appeals to court regarding recovery of alimony were registered. There are billions of hryvnias of debt today. And this debt is to the children, said the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on children’s rights, Nikolai Kuleba.
